European Castles – Hot-spot for Modern Holidaymaker
Europe especially UK is known for its Chunnel train that connects London to Paris and Brussels. While you can book Chunnel tickets online and can connect to almost more than 100 destinations in Europe, you must see some of the marvellous castles in Europe.
Since several hundred years ago castles are being built in England, but it reached its peak in thirteenth century. The sophisticated ones were started to build. Construction of tower or keep, such as the one like White tower and fortified enclosure, were the key in the construction of castles in England. By the fourteenth century England became more peaceful, so there was a declination in the construction of strong castles, instead more lightly fortified structures and manor houses. This tradition continued not only by rich and powerful but also by all those who can afford, till sixteenth century. It was not for safety against any armies but from unbearable Border Revivers. Out of which most took form of modest tower, some cases pele and rest smaller, and now contribute to the heritage of the England.
Pendennis Castle, Carnwall: a 16th century Henrician Castle
It has structure of the type of Saxon Burh or the Iron Age Hill fort. Being wholly military, strongholds or camp in nature, it is ruins of the Roman forts.
Herstmonceux Castle, East Sussex:
It is also known as Device Forts or Henrician Castles, built in the reign of henry VIII.
Windsor Castle, Berkshire:
At the time when this castle was no more needed as fortresses they were modified to make new residence by undergoing renovations.
Peckforton Castle, Cheshire, with Beeston Castle:
This primacy contains the fortified buildings. And the list of the castles in England will not end at all.
Portchester Castle, Hampshire: Roman walls and medieval keep
Wentworth Castle: not a castle but a country house
It is a logical conclusion of the process which is already apparent in castle like Herstmonceux or Tattershall, as this was more for showing than for the protection.
Red Lion Tower, Haltwhistle
It is incorporated in a small amount of masonry of medieval type. Corby Castle, the highest tower in it, is encased in building later.
